Choosing an outfit can be hard - let alone for 4 or 5 other people too. Here are my 5 steps for family photo success.
1) Pick a color palette of 3-4 colors. If these are pictures you are hoping to hang in your home look around your family room and see what colors are already there, that will help photos feel part of the room. Try to pick a dark, medium and light color.
2) Plan around the hardest person. AKA the person that cares the most. In my experience it's usually mom. When mom feels confident in what they are wearing everyone has a better time. Find 2-3 options that fit the color palette, are comfortable and make you feel confident.
3) If more than one person has big opinions - have everyone pick 2-3 options they like within the color palette. Then when you see all the outfits side by side you can decide what works together and what doesn't.
4) Eliminate tight patterns and logos. Shirts with small tight lines or patterns can cause a blur effect and be distracting. Logos are shirts also distracting and make photos look less professional.
5) Try on all your clothes BEFORE the day of. Especially if it's clothes you bought for the photoshoot please make sure they fit comfortably. Nothing makes you look awkward in photos faster than clothes that are uncomfortable.
